with & without you: With & Without You was organised jointly with artist and curator Masahiro Kawanaka from Art Spot Korin, an independent gallery in Kyoto, Japan. It comprised two exhibitions: one in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK of the work of 14 students and graduates from art schools in the Kansai region of Japan; and one in Kyoto of the work of 44 Fine Art students and graduates from Newcastle University, UK. In the exhibition in Kyoto each of the 44 participants showed two works: one made for the exhibition and a second made in collaboration with Christopher Jones exploring aspects of call and response and the collaborative process. beyond words: TRANSMEDIATING MURAKAMI HARUKI, newcastle university
In 2018 Jones was invited by Dr Gitte Marianne Hansen of Newcastle University's School of Modern Languages to curate an exhibition as part of her AHRC-funded project "Eyes on Murakami". The project and accompanying conference, workshops and film-sceenings explored aspects of the writing of the Japanese writer Murakami including: gender; literary translation; transmediality; characterisation and contemporary Japanese society. Jones invited 5 artists, including Akiko Fujimoto and Katsutoshi Yuasa from Japan, to make work in response to their choice of a Murakami text. The exhibition was held at Newcastle University in March 2018 with accompanying catalogue.
