Introduction.

Bismuth tungstate, Bi2WO6, is an Aurivillius phase with a structure consisting of alternating (Bi2O2)2+ and (WO4)2- layers stacked in the c direction.

Anisotropy in the ab plane due to the asymmetric bismuth coordination environment gives rise to ferroelectric properties.
